Walk to Conquer CRPS History:

Hey everyone! My name is Kristen Cameron and I was diagnosed with CRPS in my right arm in 2017. In 2018, I was discharged from the pain clinic because they had tried 'every treatment possible' for CRPS. My doctor wished me luck and encouraged me to help others that lived with CRPS by becoming an advocate for the condition.

Little did I know at the time: the doctor knew little about the condition. I've since found multiple doctors and have had multiple types of treatments. At one point, I had to fundraise to travel and stay 4 1/2 hours away for treatment. Once every 2 weeks for a few months.

Such is life with CRPS, right?

After researching on the internet and speaking with a few organizations, I found a team of doctors in Montreal that were testing a new possible treatment for CRPS called GBM-5 (To learn more about GBM5 https://www.conquercrps.com/walk-to-conquer-crps/new-crps-treatments ) I wanted to help make this change in CRPS history possible (or at least easier), so I began the Walk to Conquer CRPS in Halifax, Nova Scotia in August of 2018. The funds raised from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Annual Walk to Conquer CRPS totalled over $10,000 and went to Dr. Blaise for the research of his new CRPS treatment, GBM5. Which is currently being tested in Montreal!

The event went from a small get together that I planned in my small town, to being a WORLDWIDE EVENT that is celebrated by CRPS Warriors and their teams in their own communities. We all MOVE TOGETHER from where we are, on the same day and for the same reason: To Conquer CRPS.

Since the event has grown so much, I needed to find a team of people to help make it possible. In 2022, the Walk to Conquer CRPS had an entire team behind the production and we were pleased to have surpassed our fundraising goal once again thanks to the hard work of incredible teams around the world.

For our 5th Annual event, our team wanted to celebrate in a big way. This meant finding ANOTHER NEW CRPS TREATMENT and a NEW way to help patients.

We are incredibly pleased to announce that the 5th Annual Walk to Conquer CRPS will be raising funds for PATIENTS to participate in a new CRPS treatment research project! Talk about bridging the gap!

The research team at McMaster University are studying the use of rTMS (Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) for CRPS patients. This is a non-invasive treatment option that could increase the quality of life for CRPS patients, but will require repeating appointments for the trial and thorough research.

100% of funds raised from the 5th Annual Walk to Conquer CRPS will go directly to the Manager of Financial Affairs at McMaster University, Saad Khan. Saad will ensure the funds are properly used to cover patient transportation costs, including shuttle services to and from the University for those who are unable to find transportation.

Patients will be able to participate in the study without having to worry about rising gas prices or the fees for shuttle services, which may seem small- but it does add up and some patients are unable to cover the costs on their own.

Like me, when I needed treatment 4 1/2 hours away.

Well, here at Conquer CRPS we want to 'Help patients and doctors navigate through life with CRPS' so that's just what we plan to do :)
