Many of you know me as the Mama to ConquerCRPS, but before CRPS, I considered myself to be an artist, like the rest of the women in my family. I enjoyed being creative, from quilling to quilting and everything in between! The art of upcycling was my passion, but I always wanted to draw and paint like my sister, Ash Cameron. So in 2016, I started practicing with animals and portraits until I fractured my dominant arm in early 2017, developing CRPS. I tried to finish my latest portrait with my cast on my arm, but I quickly realized that my artistic passions & pursuits would have to be put on hold until I learned how to live with a defective dominant arm.

Now that we've started the ConquerCRPS Artist program, I've been inspired to get creative again! Although it is challenging, it is a wonderful therapy for my physical and mental health. I have done my best to create new pieces and look forward to returning to different artistic mediums in the next few weeks as my CRPS allows

Hello! I’m Jaime Dygert, a disabled Multimedia Abstract Artist now living in Georgia, but from Montana. (Emotional Expressions Artistry) I’m a Mom, Wife, MiMi, YaYa, Auntie, a Daughter, God Mom/God Aunt, a Sister, and a friend. I was a lot of things prior to becoming disabled and I’ll continue to be through all my lifelong disabilities. You see I have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome  (CRPS), I was diagnosed with this disease after having foot and ankle surgery in November 2021, and since getting diagnosed, my life has never, in any way, been the same. Honestly, I wasn’t sure I could even handle any more pain since being diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia on the left side of the face back in 2014. (CRPS andTN are classified as the top 2 most painful diseases known to mankind.)

So the art world really first started for me about 3 to 4 years ago as a form of therapy, not only mental but physical too. Living with chronic pain can be a mixture of physical, mental, and spiritual battles that our bodies go through. Having CRPS, especially for me, is an every single second of every single day battle. Battles where my body screams in pain, my mind is confused, some family and friends don’t understand, even doctors are uneducated, don’t care about your pain, and don’t listen half the time.

Painting has truly opened up something inside of me every single time I paint a piece, no matter what the piece is, because for me painting has become a way to connect and communicate with others in a way I’ve never been able to before. And my hope is that even if you do not understand what’s going on inside my mind, maybe my painting invokes something special within your mind and/or soul.

There is a lifetime worth of friendship, sisterhoods, brotherhoods, that have we have met in the amazing Conquer CRPS community, and other CRPS communities from around the world, the Internet, and even in some of your local areas. Through art I’ve become an advocate to help others with CRPS. I also want to help support the CRPS community through its resources at Conquer CRPS and by being a Conquer CRPS Artist!  Together we are stronger!
